02How it works
Why oils specifically punish volumetric filling
Oil's viscosity and density both shift noticeably with temperature — a batch filled at a warm ambient temperature can measurably differ in density from the same product filled on a cold morning. A volumetric fill locked to a fixed volume doesn't account for that at all, while fill-to-weight dosing measures the actual mass going into each container regardless of what temperature or viscosity did to the product that day.
Foam complicates level-based cutoff, not weight-based
Many oils foam during filling, especially at higher flow rates — a level-based fill-stop sensor can be fooled by foam sitting above the true liquid level, cutting off the fill early or triggering inconsistently. A load-cell-based system isn't affected by foam at all, since it's measuring the container's actual mass, not a liquid level.
Manual positioning, automated dosing
The operator's role is limited to placing and removing containers — cans, smaller drums, or IBC totes — while the dosing itself runs automatically to the weight target, which keeps the accuracy benefit of automated fill-to-weight without requiring a fully automated conveyor line.

03Manufacturing & build quality
The system is built around a load-cell weighing station sized to the container formats it will handle — typically a smaller-capacity, finer-resolution setup than a drum-only system, since cans and smaller containers need tighter increment control relative to their fill weight. The dosing valve and nozzle assembly are configured for oil's viscosity profile, since flow characteristics for oil differ meaningfully from water-thin liquids and affect how the coarse/fine flow staging is tuned. The complete station is functionally tested through fill cycles across the container range it's rated for, then calibrated with reference weights before dispatch.

Temperature-driven volumetric drift
Oil density shifting with ambient or product temperature causes a fixed-volume fill to under- or overfill by weight, inconsistently across a day or a season — fill-to-weight dosing isn't affected by that temperature variation.
Foam interfering with fill cutoff
A level-sensor-based cutoff can be triggered early or inconsistently by foam formed during filling — weight-based dosing measures true container mass regardless of foam.
Mixed container formats on one line
Handling cans, smaller drums, and IBC totes on the same station avoids needing separate dedicated fillers for each container size in a product line that ships in multiple formats.
Margin loss on high-volume commodity oil lines
Even a small average overfill percentage, multiplied across a high-volume oil-packing operation, represents real product given away — accurate fill-to-weight dosing protects that margin at scale.

Oil is sold by weight in most markets, so the accuracy of the fill is directly tied to what's legally and commercially on the label — and because oil's physical properties are unusually sensitive to temperature and prone to foaming, it's exactly the kind of product where a volumetric or level-based fill system quietly drifts out of tolerance without anyone noticing until an audit or a customer complaint catches it. Fill-to-weight dosing removes that particular risk at the source, for both edible and industrial oil lines.
