01Overview
A standard crane scale's electronics can't survive close proximity to molten metal or furnace heat. This variant adds a heat shield and high-temperature-rated housing so it can be used for ladle, billet, and scrap handling near a furnace.
02How it works
The same suspended load cell, protected differently
At its core, this is the same tension-load-cell principle as a standard crane scale — the load hangs between hook and rigging, and the load cell measures the pulling force. What's different is everything around that load cell: a heat shield and high-temperature-rated housing stand between the sensitive electronics and the radiant heat of a furnace, ladle, or freshly cast billet, which a standard crane scale's housing simply isn't built to withstand.
Radiant heat, not just ambient temperature, is the threat
The real challenge near molten metal isn't the surrounding air temperature so much as radiant heat — direct thermal radiation from the furnace or the load itself, which can cook unprotected electronics even in a workspace that isn't unbearably hot to stand in a few metres away. The heat shield is specifically engineered to reflect and block that radiant load from reaching the scale's internal components.
Same digital readout and remote display capability
Beyond the thermal protection, the operator interface — digital display and wireless remote handheld option — works the same way as the standard crane scale, since the operator's need to see the weight clearly from the cab doesn't change just because the environment is hotter.

03Manufacturing & build quality
The load cell and electronics core is built to the same tension-loading design as the standard crane scale, but housed within an additional heat-shielded enclosure engineered specifically to reflect and insulate against high radiant-heat environments. Heat shield materials and housing design are selected and tested for sustained performance in close proximity to molten metal or furnace-level radiant heat, a materially more demanding thermal environment than standard outdoor use. The complete assembly — load cell, heat shield, and display electronics — is tested under load and, where practical, under representative thermal exposure conditions before calibration and dispatch, since a scale that reads accurately at room temperature but drifts under radiant heat load hasn't actually solved the problem this variant exists for.
