01Overview
Signals a waiting driver when to pull onto the deck and when to stop, reducing the chance of a vehicle entering while a weighment is still in progress or the barrier is closing.
02How it works
Signaling tied to the weighment cycle, not a fixed timer
Unlike a standard road traffic light running on a fixed timer, a weighbridge traffic light is tied directly into the weighbridge software's weighment sequence — it shows green when the deck is clear and ready for the next vehicle, and switches to red once a vehicle is on the deck or a weighment is in progress, staying red until that cycle completes.
A visual cue that backs up the barrier and the queue
Where a boom barrier physically stops a vehicle, the traffic light gives the driver a clear, unambiguous visual signal before they even reach the barrier — reducing the chance of a driver approaching too early and having to stop abruptly, or misjudging whether the deck is actually free.
Standard red/green LED signal head
The signal itself is a conventional red/green LED head in a weatherproof housing — deliberately using a universally understood signaling convention rather than a custom display, so any driver instinctively knows what red and green mean without needing site-specific instruction.

03Manufacturing & build quality
The signal head is built from high-visibility red and green LED clusters in a weatherproof housing rated for continuous outdoor exposure and pole or wall mounting near the weighbridge approach. Wiring and control circuitry connect the signal to the weighbridge software's weighment-sequence output — the same kind of relay or serial trigger used for the boom barrier — and each unit is tested for correct signal switching and LED brightness/visibility before dispatch.

Without a clear visual cue, a driver may pull onto the deck before the previous weighment has fully cleared, risking an invalid or interrupted reading — the light gives an unambiguous stop signal during that window.

A traffic light is a small piece of equipment relative to the rest of a weighbridge installation, but it's doing a genuinely important job: keeping vehicle movement around the scale predictable and orderly, particularly once a site removes the human attendant who would otherwise be directing that traffic by eye.

How does it get wired into our weighment sequence?
The same way the boom barrier does — via a relay or serial signal output from the weighbridge software, so both the light and the barrier respond to the same weighment-status trigger.
Is it visible in bright daylight?
Yes, it uses high-visibility LED clusters specifically chosen for outdoor daylight visibility, the same LED technology used in standard road traffic signals.
Does it need a backup power supply?
A backup supply is worth considering alongside the barrier's, since a light that stays dark or stuck on green during a power outage removes the safety benefit it's there to provide — pair its power planning with the rest of the site's critical electronics.
Do we need one light or two for a two-way lane?
That depends on your lane configuration — a single-direction lane typically needs one signal head facing approaching traffic, while a two-way or double-lane setup may need a head per direction.
